In this workshop, offered in partnership with Think 360, poet Kathryn T. S. Bass will guide the group, creating a playful, joyful environment where perception, description and creativity take center stage. Through reading, writing and sharing poems, the group will also develop new listening and speaking skills. This program provides opportunities for authentic arts experiences with a professional artist and helps students of all learning styles feel a sense of achievement in learning, social and character development and self awareness.
Grades: 2-5 • Tuesdays • 3:35-4:35pm • Starts 1/5/10 • $80/10 weeks • Kathryn Bass
Instructor: Kathryn Bass, State of Colorado Artist Fellow, believes poetry belongs to everyone. "Whether we know it or not, each time we enjoy the way two words bump up against each other -- each time we notice something deeply, even something very ordinary -- we are on the verge of poetry. When I work with students, whether Pre-K or post-grad, I have two goals: to help them discover their voices, and to guide them as they take the great risks -- and reap the great rewards -- that go hand-in-hand with the process of making art." Kathryn's poems can be found in her two books as well as dozens of literary magazines; she holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Denver.
